Report: Redskins claim former 49ers LB Reuben Foster off waivers

The Washington Redskins are apparently attempting everything under the sun to improve their roster. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that now includes claiming disgraced former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster off waivers.

A first-round pick of the 49ers last year, Foster was waived by the team early Sunday morning. This came after he was arrested the prior night at the team hotel in Tampa Bay on domestic violence charges.

San Francisco’s decision to move on from Foster wasn’t surprising given that he had previously been arrested on domestic violence charges as well as gun possession and marijuana possession charges since entering the NFL.

Remember, the Alabama product was suspended for the first two games of the 2018 season due to these off-field issues. Needless to say, the NFL is going to investigate his most-recent arrest and will respond accordingly.

Outside of public perception, this is a low-risk move for the Redksins. If Foster is indeed punished in the court of law or by the NFL, the team can simply move on from him. Either way, it’s rather interesting timing.
