Report: Redskins bracing for Rams to hire Sean McVay

All three of the remaining head coaching vacancies in the NFL are on teams that reside in California. That’s an odd dynamic to look at as the vacancies themselves continue to fill up.

Though, it now looks like one of these California teams is close to choosing a new head coach. According to CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora, the Washington Redskins are bracing themselves for the eventuality that the Los Angeles Rams will soon hire offensive coordinator Sean McVay to be their new head coach.

If McVay, 30, were to be hired by the Rams he would be the youngest head coach in the history of the NFL.

Seen as integral in helping Kirk Cousins progress into a franchise quarterback, McVay has overseen the Redskins’ offense over the past three seasons. Overall, this past regular season saw Washington finish in the top-three in total offense while putting up 24.8 points per game.

The idea here for the Rams would be for McVay to use his prowess as a quarterback mentor to help former No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff take that next step as a sophomore in 2017.

It seems to make a lot of sense on the surface. Los Angeles exhausted too much of a capital on Goff not to put him in the best possible position to succeed moving forward.
