One of the biggest names on the trade market is headed to the Boston Red Sox. Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that the Red Sox have acquired Drew Pomeranz from the San Diego Padres.

Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports that top prospect Anderson Espinoza is a part of the deal going back to San Diego.
Pomeranz is having a stellar year for the Padres. In 17 starts, the lefty has posted a 2.47 ERA, 1.059 WHIP and 115 strikeouts in 102 innings. He also made his first career All-Star appearance on Tuesday.
He now figures to slot in at the front of Boston’s rotation. While this is his final year of team control, Pomeranz is not a rental, either. He still has two arbitration years remaining before he hits the free-agent market.
It has also been reported that Espinoza is the only player that the Padres are acquiring.
Drew Pomeranz trade from #Padres to #RedSox is a 1-for-1 deal, source says.

Espinoza, an 18-year-old starter from Venezuela, was ranked by Baseball America as the game’s 19th-best prospect heading into the season. The flame-throwing righty had posted a 5-8 record with a 4.38 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 17 starts for Single-A Greenville prior to the trade. He’s definitely a good add for a Padres organization that needs all the help it down on the farm.
That’s quite a haul for the Padres. San Diego acquired Pomeranz in the offseason for Yonder Alonso, who is struggling with the Oakland Athletics.
