The Texas Rangers continue to make some under-the-radar moves this winter in hopes of contending in the ultra-competitive AL West next season.

That now reportedly includes signing former Houston Astros starting catcher Robinson Chirinos.

This represents a reunion between Chirinos and the Rangers. The veteran backstop spent six seasons in Texas before moving on to the Astros last year.

Chirinos, 35, hit just .238 with 17 homers and 58 RBI while striking out 126 times last season. Though, he’s been vastly improved behind the plate.

This move comes with Texas still boasting struggling veteran Jeff Mathis. It sure looks like Chirinos will be called on to catch for a largely new starting rotation that includes veteran additions Corey Kluber, Jordan Lyles and Kyle Gibson.
