Report: Rams put Nick Foles and Case Keenum on trade block

One day after the Los Angeles Rams selected Jared Goff with the No. 1 pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, the franchise has put Nick Foles and Case Keenum up for auction on the trade block, per Mike Silver of NFL Network.

While neither quarterback is a treasured prospect, the Rams might see some action for their services.

The New York Jets could potentially be a team interested in acquiring one of them, given their current ugly standoff with Ryan Fitzpatrick (read more on the latest development here). As it stands, New York has Geno Smith and Bryce Petty as the only two quarterbacks on the roster.

That’s not a great situation.

Perhaps Chip Kelly and the San Francisco 49ers might be interested in Foles (don’t laugh). Foles’ best season came in his first with Kelly back in 2013 when he threw 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions starting in 10 games.

Any deal struck for either Foles or Keenum would likely happen after second round. Heading into Day 2 of the draft, the Browns are reportedly eager to move down at the top of Round 2, and at this point a trade is expected. Teams could be targeting either Connor Cook or Christian Hackenberg there with that selection.

Most teams in need of a quarterback are likely not as interested in a stop-gap option when they could potentially have that quarterback of the future.

We’ll be keeping an eye on this as the draft moves along. The biggest takeaway here, though, from the Rams perspective is that Goff is most certainly the man now going forward.
