Report: Phoenix Suns’ Markieff and Marcus Morris Accused of Assault

Twin brothers Markieff and Marcus Morris of the Phoenix Suns have been accused of felony aggravated assault, according to a police report filed Tuesday. Via Matthew Casey of The Arizona Republic:

Phoenix police say Marcus and Markieff Morris put those words into action when they and three others committed felony aggravated assault against a man the 25-year-old twins learned had sent “inappropriate” text messages to their mother.

Police have made no arrests and no charges have been filed. A spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office confirmed Tuesday afternoon that prosecutors are continuing to review the case submitted by police.

Since being reunited at the trade deadline in 2013, the Morris twins have been among the league’s most colorful duos, and some have even credited their synergy for playing a significant part in the Suns’ improvement over the last two seasons. The Suns gave the pair a four year, $52 million joint contract extension over the summer, and left it to the brothers to divide the money amongst themselves.

The report marks the third substantial off the court incident the Suns organization has faced since the beginning of the last offseason. Guard Archie Goodwin was arrested for disorderly conduct last May, while forward PJ Tucker was arrested in July and later jailed for a “super extreme DUI.”

Owner Robert Sarver does not have the same reputation for zero tolerance of his predecessor Jerry Colangelo, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be forced into action following this latest incident. Following a disappointing season, Phoenix and general manager Ryan McDonough could be looking at sweeping changes this summer.
