The Philadelphia Phillies are planning on spending a lot of money this winter. In two years, they reportedly plan on making an even bigger splash with Mike Trout.
Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports is reporting that Trout is not likely to sign an extension with the Los Angeles Angels before his contract runs out following the 2020 season. If and when Trout becomes a free agent, the Phillies would then make a “big play” for him.
Regardless who they sign this winter, phillies will make a big play for mike trout in 2 years — provided he hasn’t signed an extension, of course. #LAAngels will try to extend Trout this winter, but while he likes it there, the whispers are that an extension now is unlikely.

First off, no matter how much he may like it with the Angels, Trout turning down any extensions is only logical
He’s hands down the best player in baseball and only 27. There’s no good reason to think that the same won’t be true in two years. Unless the Halos are willing to make an over-the-top offer (which is unlikely, but not impossible), Trout testing the open market only makes sense.
When that happens, Trout to Philadelphia would be a good match. He’s from the area, being born and raised in nearby Southern New Jersey. He was a fan of the Phillies growing up and remains a fan of Philadelphia’s other pro teams.
But if Trout has any interest in returning home, we know that his hometown team is willing to make that happen.
