Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has tested positive for COVID-19, per ESPN’s Tim McManus, becoming the latest prominent figure to contract the virus during the pandemic.

Pederson, 52, joins New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton as the second known NFL head coach to test positive for the coronavirus.

The Eagles, who won Super Bowl LII under Pederson, had just begun welcoming players back for the start of training camp. Fortunately, per McManus, it’s believed he contracted the virus away from the team’s facilities.

Following the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols, Pederson will be kept away from the facilities until he passes multiple tests. The Eagles will also continue to test players daily this week for the coronavirus, per the league’s rules, and use contract tracing to see who Pederson came in contact with.

Payton recovered fairly quickly from the coronavirus and is back with his team as they prepare for the 2020 NFL season. Let’s hope that with Pederson asymptomatic, he also makes a full recovery and avoids any long-term health effects.
