The New England Patriots had to make one roster move on Monday to make room for recently acquired star receiver Antonio Brown.
They ended up making two moves, releasing tight end Lance Kendricks and former Oakland Raiders second-round pick Obi Melifonwu.
Melifonwu was inactive for New England’s season-opening win over the Steelers Sunday night with an ankle injury.
Meanwhile, Kendricks was suspended for the opener for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
The tight end was signed away from the Green Bay Packers in the offseason in hopes of helping New England overcome the loss of Rob Gronkowski to retirement.
