Report: Patriots Sign QB Matt Flynn

The New England Patriots kept themselves busy by making a plethora of roster moves on Thursday.

Shortly after cutting backup quarterback Garrett Gilbert, the team signed veteran Matt Flynn as insurance in case Tom Brady’s four-game suspension is upheld.

Flynn last started for the Green Bay Packers in 2013. He passed for a total of 1,146 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions in four games. Since then, the former seventh-round pick has spent time with the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks.

He could be called to the starting scene if Garoppolo continues to struggle through offseason activities and the preseason. Of course, the best-case scenario for New England would be for Brady’s four-game suspension to either be shortened or overturned completely.

His appeal hearing is scheduled for June 23.
