Report: Patriots RB Jeremy Hill out for season with torn ACL

Veteran running back Jeremy Hill signed with the New England Patriots this past spring in an attempt to resurrect a once-promising career.

At the very least, New England viewed the former Cincinnati Bengals second-round pick as a short-yardage back after the 25-year-old put up 30 touchdowns in his first four NFL seasons.

That’s not going to happen this season. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Hill suffered a torn ACL Sunday against the Houston Texans and is out for the remainder of the year.

This just sucks for Hill. He got off to a strong start in Week 1, going for 25 yards on four attempts. Needless to say, the Pats were looking to feature the former 1,000-yard rusher at a high clip this season.

With rookie first-round pick Sony Michel also sidelined to injury, New England’s depth at running back will be tested moving forward. Going up against a dominant Jaguars defense next week, said test will come sooner rather than later.
