Report: Panthers to re-sign future Hall of Famer Julius Peppers

Perhaps the greatest player in Carolina Panthers history will reportedly be returning to the team for at least one more season. According to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, nine-time Pro Bowler Julius Peppers will re-sign with the Panthers on what will likely be a one-year deal.

Peppers, 38, spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Panthers after they made him the second overall pick back in the 2002 NFL Draft. After spending the next seven seasons between Chicago and Green Bay, Peppers returned to the Panthers last season. Like clockwork, he was back up to his old tricks. As a part-time pass rusher, he tied Mario Addison for the team lead in sacks with 11.

A likely first ballot Hall of Famer, Peppers has put up 154.5 sacks in 16 NFL seasons. That’s an average of nearly 10 sacks per season. His presence on the Panthers for yet another season is going to be absolutely huge for the team’s defense.
