Report: Panthers think Cam Newton likely to pass physical in March

The Carolina Panthers have stated they will make no decisions about Cam Newton until he’s fully healthy. That wait may soon end.

According to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, who cited “a source with knowledge of the situation, the Panthers believe Newton will pass his physical and be cleared for some football activities at some point in March.

The actual date could be a huge key. Starting March 16, teams can communicate with free agents, and on March 18 they can actually sign them. The reason this is important for the Panthers is that there is plenty of smoke revolving around a potential trade of Newton as the Panthers look to potentially rebuild from scratch with rookie head coach Matt Rhule.

The Panthers, if they do want to trade Newton, will likely want to try and do it before free agency takes place to get ahead of what may end up being one of the maddest dashes for free agent quarterbacks the NFL has ever seen.
