The Carolina Panthers will not be bringing back veteran tight end Greg Olsen for the 2020 season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
Olsen has one year left on his current deal, and the Panthers will incur a dead-cap hit of $3.7 million by releasing him, which will take place after the Super Bowl, per Rapoport.
Whether Olsen continues to play in the NFL next year is still up in the air. He has experience already as an NFL broadcaster and has a career in that field if he so chooses.
Last season, appearing in 14 games, Olsen caught 52 passes for 597 yards and two touchdowns. He will turn 35 on March 11, and his career has been beset by multiple foot injuries the past few years. With that in mind, it would not be surprising at all if he chooses to leave the game and pursue a career in media.
