Report: Packers S Darnell Savage (calf) headed to IR

The Green Bay Packers will place starting safety Darnell Savage on injured reserve, ESPN reported Wednesday.

Savage, 26, is expected to return this season but his calf injury will need at least a month to heal, per the report.

He initially sustained the injury in the Oct. 9 loss at Las Vegas. He returned after the bye week but aggravated the injury in last Sunday’s 19-17 setback in Denver.

Savage will miss at least the next four games, putting his earliest return date on Thanksgiving (Nov. 23) at Detroit.

Savage has 34 tackles in six starts this year. He has 285 tackles and nine interceptions in 68 games (65 starts) since Green Bay drafted him 21st overall in 2019.

The Packers (2-4) host the Minnesota Vikings (3-4) on Sunday.
