Report: Pablo Sandoval to undergo shoulder surgery

The disastrous season-plus for Pablo Sandoval in Boston is about to take another turn after reports indicated Monday evening that the Red Sox third baseman will undergo surgery on his shoulder.

While there is no indication one way or another how serious the surgery is, it’s set to be performed by the world renowned Dr. James Andrews. This is a clear sign that something is definitely off with Sandoval’s left shoulder.

Sandoval, 29, signed a five-year, $95 million contract with Boston prior to last season. He proceeded to post a .245 average with 10 homers, 45 RBI’s and a ridiculously low .292 on-base percentage.

Even prior to the start of his second season in Boston, the former World Series hero with the San Francisco Giants was benched in favor of youngster Travis Shaw. Sandoval has appeared in just three games this season, failing to record a hit in six at-bats.

It was reported back in mid-April that surgery was possible for Sandoval, but Monday’s news confirms that 2016 will be yet another lost season for the two-time All-Star and three-time world champ.
