Report: NFL salary cap set at $167 million

There’s going to be a ton of money flying around free agency when it gets going next month. For the fourth consecutive year, the NFL salary cap has increased by at least $10 million.

According to NFL Media’s Judy Battista, the cap will be set at a whopping $167 million for the upcoming 2017 season.

This means that a whole heck of a lot of teams will have some pretty big cash to throw around in free agency.

Based on the cap and looking at Spotrac projections, the Cleveland Browns now have an absurd $106.8 million to spend under the cap. Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers come in second with $95.3 million in cap room.

All said, eight of the league’s 32 teams (one-quarter) have $50-plus million in cap room to work with. This is most definitely good news for free agents set to hit the open market next week.
