Report: NFL salary cap set at $177.2 million for 2018 season

According to multiple reports, the NFL informed its teams on Monday that the salary cap for the 2018 season will be set at $177.2 million.

This is slightly lower than what Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk recently reported but still over $9 million more than last year’s $168 million cap. A big reason the cap continues to rise is that television money is pouring in, especially since Thursday Night Football started to become a regular occurrence.

The swell in cap space will certainly help teams keep up with the rising price of landing a franchise quarterback. It’ll also help the Pittsburgh Steelers sign running back Le’Veon Bell to the big deal he seeks.
