The NBA is looking into a play where Brooklyn Nets assistant coach David Vanterpool touched an opponent’s pass as it flew past the Nets’ bench area in Wednesday’s game, the New York Daily News reported.
The Washington Wizards’ Spencer Dinwiddie had passed the ball to Kyle Kuzma in the corner when Vanterpool reached his hand out while communicating with a player on the court. Vanterpool’s hand interfered with the ball and knocked it out of bounds, and possession was given to Brooklyn.
Kuzma said after the game that the missed call was “horses—” and claimed that Nets head coach Steve Nash was blocking the nearest ref’s view so he couldn’t see what had happened to the pass.
Per the Daily News, the NBA will decide in the next 24-48 hours whether to discipline Vanterpool with a suspension or fine.
Vanterpool, 48, is in his first season on Brooklyn’s staff after six years as an assistant for the Portland Trail Blazers and two in Minnesota.
