The Washington Nationals have signed manager Dave Martinez to a two-year contract extension and are nearing a new deal with general manager Mike Rizzo, The Athletic reported Monday.

Martinez, who managed the Nationals to a World Series championship in 2019, is receiving a club option for a third year. Rizzo, who has been the team’s GM since 2009, is expected to get a similar deal.

Both Martinez, 58, and Rizzo, 62, are completing the option years on their current deals.

In the third season of their rebuild, the Nationals seem to be turning a corner, having won 12 of their past 17 games and posting a 21-14 record since the All-Star break.

Martinez took over Washington’s managerial duties in 2018 and has posted a 378-455 (.454) record despite losing several stars over the past few seasons. Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon left via free agency, and the Nats dealt away Max Scherzer, Trea Turner and Juan Soto at recent trade deadlines.
