Report: Nationals sign ace starter Patrick Corbin to six-year contract

The Washington Nationals are doing everything possible to unseat the defending NL East champion Atlanta Braves.

After making multiple moves to help them at catcher, the Nationals have now found a top-end battery mate.

According to multiple media reports, Washington has signed former Arizona Diamondbacks ace Patrick Corbin to a six-year contract.

Corbin, 29, was among the most-dominant all-around pitchers in the game last season. He pitched to an 11-7 record with a 3.15 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 33 starts. The veteran also struck out 246 batters in 200 innings while holding hitters to a .218 batting average.

Corbin will the ace starting tandem of Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg to form an elite level trio in the nation’s capital.

Though, one other major question remains here. Does the signing of Corbin signal that Washington has given up on the possibility of re-signing former NL MVP Bryce Harper? Only time will tell on that front.
