Report: Mike Glennon feels ‘cheated on’ by the Bears

Mike Glennon signed with the Bears

If the entire Chicago Bears drama from this past weekend is any indication, rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky is in for a rude awakening.

Chicago traded up from the No. 3 overall pick on Thursday night, picking up the second selection from San Francisco while yielding three valuable draft picks. It did so in order to acquire former North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

The Bears themselves were criticized to no end for making the move. It’s also a move that head coach John Fox apparently didn’t know was happening in the lead up to the draft. Talk about a growing rift between head coach and general manager there.

Now, as the Bears look to move forward with Trubisky as their potential franchise quarterback, another member of the team is apparently unhappy with these recent events.

Newly signed Mike Glennon reportedly feels “cheated on” by the Bears after they selected his potential replacement before he’s even played a single game with the team.

“He (Glennon) found out as the rest of the world did. The Bears don’t believe in him as much as he thought, as much as they conveyed to him during his blissful first seven weeks on the job,” Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reported Monday. “Glennon felt as though he had been cheated on, according to people in the know. When admiration, affection and support abruptly become rejection, it hurts. And the pain cuts deep.”

To be fair, Glennon did sign a three-year $45 million contract with nearly $19 million guaranteed back in March. This came after his starting job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was given to a rookie in the form of Jameis Winston back in 2015. Needless to say, Glennon himself must be feeling that this is a repeat of what happened in Tampa.

From a Bears perspective, their decision to trade up for Trubisky has led some within to the NFL to believe that general manager Ryan Pace just signed his own walking papers (more on that here).

As it relates to Glennon, he will likely be the Week 1 starter. Though, there’s nothing here that suggests he will be more than a stop-gap option until Trubisky is ready to take the field. Hence, Glennon himself feeling like he was cheated on.

The more things change around the NFL, the more things stay the same in Chicago. It has been an organization filled with drama over the past several years. That’s now been taken to a whole new level.
