Report: Melvin Gordon’s holdout expected to last into the season

It appears that Los Angeles Chargers Pro Bowl running back Melvin Gordon will not be with the team once Week 1 of the regular season comes calling next month.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports that Gordon’s now-lengthy holdout is expected to last into the regular year.

Given that there’s been no traction between Gordon and the Chargers in extension talks, this shouldn’t be considered too much of a surprise. In fact, we previously predicted that his holdout would last beyond the preseason.

Gordon, 26, has put up 4,372 total yards and 38 touchdowns over the past three seasons — earning two Pro Bowl appearances in the process.

Despite this, the former first-round pick seems to be overestimating the true value of running backs in today’s NFL. It’s led to a widespread split between him and the Chargers in contract talks.
