So much for the rumor that the Cincinnati Bengals are growing impatient with Marvin Lewis. According to Michael Silver of NFL.com, the long tenured coach is getting an extension, instead, that runs through 2017.
Just filed to @nflnetwork: Bengals coach Marvin Lewis has agreed to a contract extension with the team that will run through 2017…

While it’s not exactly an overwhelming show of support for Lewis from owner Mike Brown, this does throw cold water on the notion that 2016 is a do-or-die season for the head coach.
In his 13 years guiding the AFC North club, Lewis has compiled a record of 112-94-2. Since 2012, which happens to be the year Andy Dalton showed up to start playing quarterback, Cincinnati has gone 43-20.
Winning consistently is important, and Lewis has done that…during the regular season, at least.
His postseason record isn’t great, though. In fact, it’s downright atrocious. In his 13 years at the helm of the Bengals, Lewis’ teams are 0-7 in playoff games.
It would appear that Brown is still willing to let the process play out for another couple of years. He seems loathe to make a change at this point. Fans are growing impatient, even if he isn’t, and playoff wins are the only thing that will fix this.
