Report: Marlins signing Victor Victor Mesa and Victor Mesa Jr.

Miami Marlins CEO Derek Jeter

As the Miami Marlins continue to rebuild, they entered the offseason with a very lofty goal. They’ve now reportedly accomplished it, signing Cuban outfielders Victor Victor Mesa and Victor Mesa Jr.

According to Jorge Ebro of the El Nuevo Herald, the brothers have agreed to a deal with the Marlins and are currently in Miami awaiting a press conference.

According to the report, Miami is expected to hold a press conference on Monday in which Derek Jeter will attend. The brothers have reportedly both cleared the medical portion of the contracts.

Victor Victor is rated as the top international prospect according to MLB.com. The 22-year-old outfielder draws high grades defensively for his abilities in the outfield with a strong arm, great athleticism and a developing hit tool.

Scouts have compared him to Washington Nationals outfielder Victor Robles, who is rated by MLB.com as the fifth-best prospect in baseball. Victor Victor would immediately become Miami’s top prospect if the deal becomes official.

Victor Mesa Jr. is a teenage outfielder who also offers nice athleticism, but isn’t nearly as developed as his brother defensively or at the plate.

If the deals become official, this represents a monumental land for Miami and a major move that could turn this franchise around in the future.
