The Kansas City Chiefs suspended cornerback Marcus Peters one game without pay heading into Week 14, and now we have a bit more information as to why.
In part, Peters was suspended for throwing a penalty flag into the stands last Sunday at MetLife Stadium against the New York Jets (watch here). That much was known already.
According to NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo, however, Peters also got into an argument with one of his coaches after the game on their way to the airport, prompting Andy Reid to issue the suspension.
Michael Robinson, a former NFL player who now works for NFL Network, said he spoke with Peters this week about the suspension.
“I spoke to him this week, very much apologetic,” Robinson said during Saturday’s show. “He hates the way this thing came out. … I think the loss of Eric Berry has done some damage to Marcus Peters on a personal note, just not being able to have that guy like an Ike Taylor in that locker room to be able to lean on when you’re going through something.”
The Chiefs will certainly miss Peters this weekend against AFC West rival Oakland. Though Amari Cooper might not be able to play (ankle injury), the Raiders still have plenty of offensive weapons that can hurt Kansas City’s defense, especially without Peters in the lineup.
Both the Raiders and Chiefs enter the game with records of 6-6, tied with the Los Angeles Chargers atop the division with four games left to play.
