Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins will play under the franchise tag for a second consecutive season. This much became a reality when the two sides failed to come to terms on an extension prior to Monday’s deadline.
But it doesn’t change the fact that the Cousins’ situation remains completely up in the air over the long term. Now, playing out another lame-duck season, it looks like Cousins is privately receiving support of his teammates.

This shouldn’t necessarily come as too much of a surprise. These are players who go to battle every Sunday during the season with Cousins. Short of a locker room issue, quarterbacks receiving the support of their teammates is nothing new.
Though, it does lend credence to the idea that even members of the Redskins’ organization are not happy with the team’s front office. We’re talking about a team that fired its general manager on the first day of free agency, only to throw him under the bus shortly thereafter.
As it relates to Cousins, there’s no telling whether he will be in Washington beyond the 2017 campaign. The Pro Bowl signal caller has been linked to the San Francisco 49ers numerous times in the past. It’s a trade we’d love to see happen this summer. Though, that remains highly unlikely.
