Anyone who had the “pleasure” of watching ESPN’s broadcast team of Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland call “Monday Night Football” this season is in for a treat.
According to Andrew Marchand of the NY Post, major shake ups are expected within the broadcast.
The media insider first noted that “MNF” producer Jay Rothman will not return in that role. Sources indicated that ESPN is targeting CBS lead NFL game producer Jim Rikhoff for the position. It’s not a coincidence that he works with the respected Tony Romo.
That’s where this story starts. Held in high regard for his in-game analysis, Romo is set to become the media equivalent of a big-name free agent and will ultimately ink a record deal. ESPN will obviously target him for the weekly broadcast.
What does this all mean? Outside of those behind the scenes, it sure the heck looks like Tessitore and McFarland could be out of a job.
This isn’t a surprise. Booger himself has been absolutely atrocious in the booth. That included mind-numbing analysis during Saturday’s AFC Wildcard game between the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills.
