Report: Knicks were interested in signing Carmelo Anthony this summer

The New York Knicks continue to be the butt of all the jokes.

Fresh off a free-agency period that saw New York fail to land any top-end players comes this report from Shams Charania of The Athletic indicating that New York was interested in re-signing Carmelo Anthony.

The one caveat here is that the Knicks were only interested in Anthony if they were able to add two star players in July.

“Meanwhile, if the Knicks had acquired two major free agents, such as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, this summer, the franchise planned to consider bringing back Anthony on a contract,” Charania reported.

Irving and Durant never really gave the Knicks serious consideration before teaming up on the Brooklyn Nets.

Anthony, 35, is now probably done with the NBA. Other contending teams, Charania reported, have no interest in signing the 10-time All-Star and future Hall of Famer.

But hey, at least James Dolan and the Knicks were interested in some parallel universe that didn’t include them being an absolute joke.

Melo has that going for him.
