If Kirk Cousins gets his wish following the shocking Alex Smith to Washington trade, he’ll be the quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings in 2018, according to a report.

Now, there’s a lot going on here. Because it’s unclear at this time what Minnesota is interested in doing heading into the 2018 NFL offseason. All three of the quarterbacks on its roster from 2017 are potentially going to be free agents (Teddy Bridgewater’s contract might actually toll for 2018).
However, if the Vikings are ready to move on and pursue a high-priced free agent, then Cousins certainly fits. He’s accurate when he has protection and can throw in rhythm, and Minnesota’s receivers are top rate. The Vikings also have that stellar defense and the run game to balance things out on offense. The issue here is whether the Vikings are willing to shell out $25 million-plus per year on a long-term deal on a quarterback who isn’t necessarily an elite guy.
This spring is going to be fascinating. Cousins stands to make a ton of money, though where he lands is at this point a mystery.
