Report: Khalil Mack expected to hold out due to contract impasse

Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack

The Oakland Raiders reportedly won’t have star pass rusher Khalil Mack in camp when it opens Thursday, as he’s expected to hold out.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on this Wednesday, noting “It does not appear to be a case of posturing.”

Mack has been expected to hold out for a couple of months now. He’s seeking a new contract and will be forced to play out the final year of his rookie deal absent a long-term extension in 2018.

While the money for this final year isn’t peanuts ($13.8 million fully guaranteed), it’s a far cry from the kind of money Mack would bring in on a new deal.

In his first four seasons as a pro, the former Buffalo standout has racked up 40.5 sacks and is one of the most dangerous pass rushers in the NFL.
