Report: Kevin Sumlin to become next head coach at Arizona

Kevin Sumlin Texas A&M

The Arizona Wildcats will reportedly make former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin their new head coach for the 2018 season and beyond. Legendary football analyst and former Dallas Cowboys scout Gil Brandt has the scoop.

This news comes just hours after Navy’s Ken Niumatalolo made a statement in which he pulled his name from the search at Arizona, opting to remain with the Midshipmen.

While this wasn’t the end result quarterback Khalil Tate has been lobbying for — he wanted the school to hire defensive coordinator Marcel Yates — this should make him happy in the long run. Sumlin has a lot of experience helping mobile quarterbacks take big strides as passers, and he should have a positive impact on Tate.

Sumlin has 10 years experience as a collegiate head coach. He coached Houston four seasons before signing on with the Aggies and has a career record of 86-43, including 4-3 in bowl games.
