Report: Kenley Jansen to miss a month to undergo treatment for irregular heartbeat

After being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat after arriving in Colorado, Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen is now expected to miss a month of action.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the All-Star closer will undergo treatment for his irregular heartbeat in the coming weeks and isn’t expected back until September.

Jansen was unavailable for Thursday’s series opener at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies due to an illness. The team then sent him back to Los Angeles to undergo further testing on his heart.

The 30-year-old has had issues in the past related to his heart, including a procedure earlier in his career. Los Angeles is exercising the utmost caution with one of its best players and focusing on his long-term health.

While Jansen is out, Pedro Baez and Scott Alexander could see save opportunities. Los Angeles could also seek help via trade during August’s waiver-deadline period.
