Report: Kawhi Leonard declines $21 million option, becomes free agent

Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard is reportedly going to decline his 2019-20 player option worth $21.3 million and will become an unrestricted free agent, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

In no way is this an unexpected development. It’s long been expected that Leonard would be among the top free agents of this summer’s NBA smorgasbord.

He’ll have no shortage of suitors, either. Coming off a legendary postseason run, Leonard is certainly going to be a hot item this summer.

According to Haynes, the Raptors are still favored to retain their star forward, despite tons of other interest. And we know that Raptors fans are desperate to get him back into the fold.

Of late, oddsmakers have the Los Angeles Clippers neck-and-neck with the Raptors as the heavy favorites to land the two-time NBA Finals MVP. However, other teams, such as the Los Angeles Lakers and even the Golden State Warriors have been mentioned among teams that could have a shot.
