Having overseen a tremendous turnaround in Waco, Baylor Bears head coach Matt Rhule has heard his name mentioned in NFL circles as a potential head coach.
The respected offensive mind has already interviewed with the New York Jets for their head-coaching opening. And now, according to this one report, it looks like he could land in Jersey to work with young quarterback Sam Darnold.

Rhule, 43, served as Temple’s head coach from 2014-16 — leading the program to consecutive 10-win seasons for the first time in history. In fact, 2015 was the first time since 1979 that the Owls won 10-plus games.
He then took over a dormant Baylor program in 2017 — leading the team to a 1-11 record before turning it around to the tune of a 7-6 record this past season.
Rhule’s only NFL experience was a stint as the New York Giants’ assistant offensive line coach in 2012.
It would certainly be a hire out of left field. But there’s little doubting what Rhule brings to the table on offense. With that in mind, this hire is more about the above-mentioned Darnold than anything else.
