Report: Jay Cutler could be done for year with shoulder injury

Jay Cutler

The Chicago Bears have been absolutely ravaged by bad news in 2016. The latest haymaker to hit the organization is the breaking news that Jay Cutler might be done for the season with a shoulder injury, suffered in Sunday’s 22-16 loss to the New York Giants.

“Multiple sources told the Tribune that Cutler suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday’s 22-16 loss to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium,” writes Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. “Cutler was able to finish the game and was intercepted by safety Landon Collins on the final offensive play but the Bears were working to learn more about his injury on a hectic Monday at Halas Hall.”

Just hours before this news broke, the Bears learned that linebacker Jerrel Freeman has been banned four games after testing positive for PEDs (more on that here). The team also learned Monday that last year’s first-round pick, receiver Kevin White, would not be returning at all this year with a leg injury.

Cutler is likely done as a member of the Bears following the 2016 season. The franchise has already been doing homework on at least one quarterback who could declare for the 2017 NFL Draft, and Cutler himself has said he’s fine if this is the end of the road between the two sides. On top of that, it’s been reported that most of Chicago’s locker room has soured on the quarterback.

There’s just not a lot of positive vibes going on.

Regardless of Cutler’s health the rest of the season, Chicago, now 2-8 and last place in the NFC North, is looking what could be quite the tumultuous offseason. Head coach John Fox could potentially be out of a job, and it’s clear Cutler is moving on, whether he likes it or not.
