Report: Jason Witten has expressed interest in Tennessee job

By Vincent Frank

Now that the Tennessee Volunteers are back to square one with their head coach search following the Greg Schiano debacle, we promise to hear other names pop up as potential candidates.

But no one expected this name to be part of the conversation. According to one report, Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has expressed interest in immediately taking over as the Volunteers’ head coach.

That would certainly be an out of the box hire. Still active, Witten obviously has no coaching experience at all. He is a product of Tennessee, so there is most definitely a connection here.

Even then, it seems that Tennessee might want an experienced mind to take over its sinking ship.

Tennessee athletic director John Currie just released a statement on the entire Schiano fiasco.

Whether Currie would go out of the way to hire someone of Witten’s ilk to save his job remains to be seen. But it wouldn’t be the best of hires in terms of an immediate rebuild in Knoxville.

What we do know is that things are a hot mess at Tennessee right now. That could potentially lead to the AD being ousted.

This is most definitely a story to follow as college football prepares for conference championship weekend.
