The Dallas Cowboys will reportedly fire Jason Garrett and his entire coaching staff following a majorly disappointing 8-8 campaign that ended without a playoff berth.

Technically, since Garrett’s contract was up, he will simply not be brought back.

Owner Jerry Jones has been rumored to be moving toward this determination for weeks. Garrett has been underwhelming as a leader, tends to make the wrong decisions during crucial in-game moments and has failed to get the most out of one of the most talented rosters in the NFL — a fact Dez Bryant recently harped on with some amount of fire.

Garrett went 85-67 as the head coach of the Cowboys during the regular season since 2010, and his postseason record stands at 2-3, with Dallas never going past the divisional round under his leadership.

The Cowboys are reportedly looking at a couple of hot college coaches to fill the void here. Whether they end up luring one of them to Dallas remains to be seen.

It’s finally official: The Cowboys and Jerry Jones have moved on from Jason Garrett.

Jones and co. will have a lot of candidates to consider for one of the premiere jobs in the NFL. Names like Lincoln Riley and Urban Meyer will most likely be in the mix, along with legacy candidates like Mike McCarty and Josh McDaniels.

Updated: January 3rd – 12 p.m. EST

While the Cowboys might reportedly be set to move on from Jason Garrett, players and assistant coaches remain unaware of any changes. It’s likely a matter of time until Garrett is let go, but the longer it takes also means less time to interview the top head coaching candidates.
