Creighton is nearing a lifetime contract extension with head coach Greg McDermott that would allow the 59-year-old to retire there, the Omaha World-Herald reported Monday.

McDermott is in his 14th season at Creighton. The Bluejays (20-8, 11-6 Big East) are in the Top 25 and poised to make the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

McDermott took Creighton to its first Elite Eight in program history in 2023, losing to national runner-up San Diego State.

Creighton has reached eight NCAA tournaments under McDermott and it would have been nine if not for the 2020 tournament getting canceled due to COVID; Creighton won the regular season Big East crown and went 24-7 that season.

McDermott enters Wednesday’s game vs. visiting Seton Hall with a career record of 469-289 at Northern Iowa (2001-06), Iowa State (2006-10) and Creighton, where he is 320-158.
