The San Francisco Giants whiffed on their pursuit of Giancarlo Stanton, but they’ve added Evan Longoria in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times broke the news, which signals the end of the franchise legend’s career in Tampa.
According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo, the Giants are sending Christian Arroyo, Denard Span, Matt Krook and Stephen Woods to Tampa. MLB.com lists Arroyo as the No. 1 prospect in the San Francisco system, while Krook and Woods rank 25th and 29th, respectively.
Longoria hit .261 for the Rays last season with 20 home runs and 86 runs batted in. He posted a .273 average and smacked 36 homers during the 2016 season, too.
Longoria has played at least 156 games in each of the last five years, so the Giants are banking on his durability while hoping his power translates to a pitcher-friendly park.
