Report: Giants RB Shane Vereen re-injures triceps

After missing most of 2016 with an injury, New York Giants running back Shane Vereen may be headed back to injured reserve.

Art Stapleton of USA Today reported that Vereen re-injured his triceps.

The report was later confirmed by Ben McAdoo.

Vereen missed more than two months of action with a triceps injury. He played the season’s first three games and was placed on injured reserved following Week 3. Vereen was activated in Week 14, with the re-injury coming in Week 15’s win over the Detroit Lions.

Per Stapleton, McAdoo added that a decision has not been made as to whether Vereen will be placed on injured reserve again. Still, it’s awfully hard to imagine that Vereen will play again in 2016, given the nature of the injury.

A key cog in the team’s pass offense last season. Vereen recorded 59 receptions. The Giants have definitely missed his receiving ability out of the backfield throughout the 2016 season. Their running backs this season have combined for 75 receptions, 11 of which have come from Vereen in five games.
