Report: Giants name Gabe Kapler new manager

The San Francisco Giants have a new manager to replace recently retired legend Bruce Bochy

After an extensive search, San Francisco has opted for former Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler.

This became rather apparent earlier on Tuesday when another finalist, Joe Espada, was told he did not get the job.

The Giants have been seeking more youthful options to replace Bochy. Kapler, 44, would certainly qualify as that.

The former 13-year veteran managed Philadelphia for the past two seasons, posting a pedestrian 161-163 record in the process.

He’ll now take over a Giants team that’s in the midst of major turnover at all levels. That could include losing World Series hero Madison Bumgarner in free agency.

The hiring of Kapler could also indicate a long-term plan from front office head Farhan Zaidi.
