Report: Giants HC Joe Judge looking into signing Freddie Kitchens to offensive staff

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants stunned the NFL community by hiring Joe Judge to be their next head coach, and now they may land Freddie Kitchens, too.

According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Judge is expected to talk to Kitchens about joining his offensive staff, as the two of them have work history at Mississippi State.

Despite Kitchens’ miserable failure as the head coach in Cleveland this past season, he’s a decent offensive coach who had Baker Mayfield playing very well in the second half of the 2018 season. With that in mind, it makes sense to add him to an offensive staff that’s going to be tasked with getting the most out of young Daniel Jones in 2020, and beyond.

Still, given the shocking hire of Judge in the first place, combined with the recency bias against Kitchens, it would not be surprising if Giants fans balked at the idea of bringing him on board.
