Report: Giants done with Josh Brown, receive roster exemption

The New York Giants are reportedly cutting ties with kicker Josh Brown, who was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list, per ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

This was the only logical move the Giants had left to make after recent news broke that indicted Brown as a wife abuser.

And thankfully, due to the exemption to their roster, the Giants won’t have to cut another man’s job to keep Brown on the books this year. After the 2016 season is finished, the Giants will only be on the hook for $250,000 in dead cap, which won’t make a big difference with the rising cap.

Up next in this saga will be the NFL’s response.

The league is opening up its investigation of Brown again after concluding earlier this year that there was not enough evidence to deem him a first-time domestic violence offender.

The league has admitted, however, that it did know enough to have helped hotel security move Brown’s ex-wife, Molly, and their children into new accommodations this past January at the Pro Bowl. Brown showed up at their door late at night, drunk, pounding on the door and hollering loud enough that NFL security arrived at the scene to remove him (more about that here).

At the least, the NFL should suspend Brown six games, which is the minimum for first-time domestic violence offenders.
