The San Francisco Giants will not be landing Giancarlo Stanton in a trade with the Miami Marlins after the star used his no-trade clause to reject their offer, per Jon Morosi of MLB.com.
This news comes just an hour after the St. Louis Cardinals were also ruled out as a possible trade destination.
At this point, it’s hard to know what will happen next. Previously, the Giants and Cardinals had agreed to trade terms with Stanton, who only had to okay one of those deals by waiving his no-trade clause. Now we’re back to square one, as he’s not seen fit to approve either deal.
It’s clear the reigning NL MVP knows he’s in full control of his own destiny and isn’t interested in doing something that does’t scream “YES!” in his own mind.
