Report: Giancarlo Stanton prefers Giants over Cardinals

If the Los Angeles Dodgers are Giancarlo Stanton’s first option, there has to be another option for the reigning NL MVP if talks between his Miami Marlins and the Dodgers continue to fail picking up traction.

Both the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants have been linked to Stanton as much as any other team, the Dodgers included. In fact, previous suggestions were that the Giants themselves might be favored to land the slugger.

In what can’t be considered too much of a surprise, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports is reporting that Stanton prefers the Giants over the Cardinals.

“One person said he ‘didn’t see any way’ he’d accept the Cardinals but added the disqualifier that he can’t say he knows for sure. Another opined that he’d 100 percent’ take the Giants over the Cardinals if that’s the choice,” Heyman noted.

Stanton, a native of Southern California, prefers the west coast over the Midwest. In fact, America’s heartland seems to be his last choice here.

With a full no-trade clause, this is most definitely significant news. It’s also important to note that this one potential offer from the Giants to the Marlins could get a Stanton deal done.

We’re still expecting this situation to play out a bit longer as the entire Dodgers dynamic draws on. Ultimately, that’s where Stanton would like to play. But there has not been much progression in talks between Miami and Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, there have been concrete conversations between Stanton himself and the Giants directly.
