Report: Geno Smith plans to sign with the Giants

The New York Giants will have a new backup quarterback for Eli Manning when the 2017 season comes calling. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former New York Jets signal caller Geno Smith plans on signing with the team.

Smith, 26, met with the Jets earlier this week and was said to be excited with what he saw during the visit.

This moves reunites Smith with former Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who signed with the Giants earlier in the offseason. He should also act as a marked upgrade behind Manning.

Despite proving himself to be nothing more than a backup during his four-year career with the Jets, Smith has starting experience and a track record of some success on the football field. That’s something the Giants didn’t have behind Manning over the past couple seasons with Ryan Nassib acting as Eli’s primary backup.

Smith, a second-round pick back in 2013, boasts a career 12-18 record in 30 starts with 35 total touchdowns and 36 interceptions.
