Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide football coaching staff hosted former Texas and USF head coach Charlie Strong on Thursday, per Aarron Suttles of The Athletic.
Whether this means anything as it relates to the ‘Bama football program remains to be seen. Saban has a habit of collecting high-profile coaches as assistants and consultants, and it wouldn’t be shocking whatsoever if Strong ends up working for the program in some capacity next seaason.
A defensive-minded coach who got his first head-coaching gig at Louisville, Strong has been involved in coaching at the collegiate level since the mid-1980s. Given Alabama’s defensive struggles last season, he could potentially provide a boost to the program as a defensive specialist, if that’s something the Crimson Tide are interested in doing.
But for now, any thought that Strong would join Saban’s staff is pure speculation.
