Two NL West rivals in that of the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants are looking for new managers after non-playoff 2019 seasons.
San Diego moved on from manager Andy Green after four seasons. Meanwhile, future Hall of Famer Bruce Bochy retired after winning three titles with the Giants.
According to this report from Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the two teams could very well be vying to hire Oakland Athletics quality control coach Mark Kotsay to be their new manager.
A first-round pick of the Miami Marlins back in 1996, Kotsay played 17 seasons in the Majors. He hit .276 with 127 homers and 720 RBI during that span.
Kotsay’s name doesn’t necessarily come out of right field. He’s served in his current role with the A’s since 2016 and was previously the Padres’ hitting coach for one season back in 2015.
