Report: Former Angels manager Brad Ausmus to interview for Padres job

The San Diego Padres could very well look to stay true to their roots in replacing recently fired manager Andy Green.

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, former Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels manager Brad Ausmus is expected to interview for the job.

As Heyman notes, Ausmus has ties with the Padres’ organization. The former catcher started his career as a member of the Padres from 1993-96. He was also a member of the organization post-retirement from 2011-13 before taking the Tigers’ managerial job.

Ausmus has posted a combined 386-422 record in five seasons as a manger. Ausmus joins another former Padres player in Mark Kotsay as a candidate for the job.
